Abstract

Intenzivno stočarstvo uvelike doprinosi akumulaciji metana (CH4), ali i ostalih stakleničkih
plinova u Zemljinoj atmosferi. Metan se proizvodi iz ugljikovog dioksida i vodika u
predželucima preživača pod utjecajem metanogenih Archaea u procesu koji nazivamo
metanogeneza. Metanogeneza se može direktno inhibirati, postoji opcija smanjenja proizvodnje
vodika tijekom procesa fermentacije ili se mogu omogućiti alternativni metabolički putevi za
stvoreni vodik koji je neophodan supstrat u stvaranju metana. Preživači u okoliš otpuštaju metan
putem podrigivanja (eruktacije). S ciljem smanjenja produkcije i emisije metana, osmišljene su
brojne strategije hranidbe. U radu su opisane strategije: hranidba kvalitetnim krmivom,
dodavanje dijetetskih sastojaka u hranu, „precizna“ hranidba, dodaci prehrani koji inhibiraju
metanogenezu, dodatak aditiva i/ili specifičnih dijelova biljke i dodatak zaštićenih
aminokiselina. Također, podrobnije su opisana istraživanja utjecaja alge Asparagopsis
taxiformis i drveta Moringa oleifera u poglavljima 5. i 6. Sve opisane strategije polučile su
učinak određenog stupnja djelotvornosti u smanjenju emisije metana. Daljnjim istraživanjima
očekuje se donijeti prijedlog primjenjiv i dostupan na globalnoj razini, sa maksimalnim
smanjenjem emisije metana i bez negativnog utjecaja na zdravlje i proizvodnost preživača.

Abstract (english)

Intensive livestock greatly contributes to the accumulation of methane (CH4), but also
other greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. Methane is produced from carbon dioxide
and hydrogen in the rumen of ruminants under the influence of methanogenic Archaea in a
process called methanogenesis. Methanogenesis can be directly inhibited, there is the option of
reducing hydrogen production during the process of fermentation or creating alternative
metabolic pathways for the generated hydrogen that is necessary substrate in methane
formation. Ruminants release methane into the environment through belching (eructation).
With the aim of reducing methane production and emissions, numerous feeding strategies have
been planned. Strategies that are described in this graduation work are: feeding with quality
feed, adding dietary ingredients to food, "precise" feeding, dietary supplements that inhibit
methanogenesis, addition of additives and/or specific parts of the plant, and addition of
protected amino acids. Also, research on the impact of the algae Asparagopsis taxiformis and
the Moringa oleifera tree are described in more details in chapters 5 and 6. All described
strategies achieved a certain degree of effectiveness in reducing methane emissions. Further
research is expected to bring a proposal applicable and available on a global level, with a
maximum reduction of methane emissions and without negative impacts on the health and
productivity of ruminants.
