Abstract

Dva glavna nametnika medonosne pčele, Nosema ceranae i Varroa destructor, djeluju imunosupresivno na svog nosioca – pčelinju zajednicu te konačno mogu dovesti i do njenog uginuća. Kako primjena antibiotika nije dopuštena u pčelarstvu, u borbi protiv patogenih uzročnika bolesti i nametnika te u održavanju zdravlja zajednica nužna je primjena imunomodulatornih dodataka hrani. Kod životinja, komercijalni probiotik EM®, koristi se kao dodatak hrani za regulaciju funkcije crijeva, stabilizirajući i održavajući ravnotežu između patogenih i korisnih mikroorganizama. Kao novitet u terapiji pčelinjih zajednica EM® probiotic for bees, regulira probavnu funkciju utjecajem na sintezu biološki aktivnih tvari. Time bi mogao imati bitnu imunomodulacijsku ulogu u sintezi vitelogenina, proteina uključenog u mehanizme tolerancije na stres, ponašanje i funkcioniranje imunosnog sustava radilica. Cilj ovog rada bio je utvrditi koncentracije vitelogenina u uzorcima hemolimfe odraslih pčela koje su prihranjivane u laboratorijski kontroliranim uvjetima, dodatkom hrani pod nazivom EM® probiotic for bees, a rezultatima kojih se posredno može zaključiti o utjecajima na modulaciju imunosnog sustava pčela

Abstract (english)

The two main parasites of the honey bee, Nosema ceranae and Varroa destructor, have an immunosuppressive effect on their host - the honeybee colony and may eventually lead to the death. As antibiotics are not allowed in beekeeping, the use of immunomodulatory food additives is necessary for the fight against pathogens and parasites, but also in maintaining the honeybee colony health. Commercial probiotic EM® is used as a food additive for animals, regulating physiological functions of the gut, stabilizing and maintaining the balance between pathogenic bacteria and microbiota. As a novelty in the treatment of honeybee colonies, EM® probiotic for bees regulates digestive function by influencing the synthesis of biologically active substances. Thus, it could play an essential immunomodulatory role in the synthesis of vitellogenin, a protein involved in the mechanisms of stress tolerance, behavior, and function of the honeybees immune system. The aim of this study was to determine the concentrations of vitellogenin in hemolymph samples of adult bees fed under laboratory controlled conditions, with the addition of food supplement called EM® probiotic for bees, and the results which can be indirectly concluded about the effects on modulation of the immune system.
