Abstract

Dermatofiti su višestanične gljivice koje imaju sposobnost keratinolize te mogu uzrokovati infekcije u životinja i ljudi. Kunići su vrlo često asimptomatski nositelji dermatofita te mogu predstavljati izvor infekcije za svoje vlasnike, osobito imunokompromitirane osobe te djecu. Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je utvrditi učestalost pojave dermatofita u populaciji asimptomatskih kunića iz uzgoja za kućne ljubimce. U tu svrhu uzorkovana je populacija od 30 kunića iz uzgajivačnice te su provedene klasične laboratorijske pretrage koje su uključivale izravno mikroskopiranje dlake i mikološku pretragu. Za molekularnu identifikaciju koristila se lančana reakcija polimerazom (engl. polymerase chain reaction PCR) u kojoj su korištene ITS1 i ITS4 početnice u svrhu umnažanja ITS1 i ITS2 regije, i 5.8 rDNA te sekvenciranje. U sedam uzoraka dlake izravnom mikroskopskom pretragom nije utvrđena prisutnost artrospora. Od sveukupno 30 pretraženih uzoraka dlačnog pokrivača iz tri asimptomatska kunića mikološkom pretragom izdvojeni su dermatofiti. Iz dva pozitivna kunića izdvojen je dermatofit Nanizzia gypsea, dok je iz jednog izdvojen dermatofit Trichophyton benhamiae. Sve tri pozitivne životinje bile su pasmine patuljasti kunić, ženskog spola i prosječne dobi 4,2 godine. Ovo istraživanje je pokazalo da se asimptomatski nositelji dermatofita mogu naći u uzgajivačnicama kunića te posljedično i trgovinama kućnim ljubimcima što upućuje na važnost praćenja prisutnosti dermatofita na dlačnom pokrivaču u takvim populacijama životinja.

Abstract (english)

Dematophytes are multicellular fungi capable of keratinolysis and can cause infections in animals and humans. Rabbits are very often asymptomatic carriers of dermatophytes and can be a source of infection for their owners, especially immunocompromised people and children. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of occurrence of dermatophytes in the population of asymptomatic rabbits bred for pets. For this purpose, a population of 30 rabbits from a kennel was sampled, and classic laboratory tests were carried out, which included direct hair microscopy and mycological examination. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used for molecular identification, in which ITS1 and ITS4 primers were used to amplify the ITS1 and ITS2 regions, and 5.8 rDNA and sequencing. In seven hair samples, the presence of arthrospores was not determined by direct microscopic examination. From a total of 30 examined hair samples, dermatophytes were isolated from three asymptomatic rabbits by mycological examination. The dermatophyte Nanizzia gypsea was isolated from two positive rabbits, while the dermatophyte Trichophyton benhamiae was isolated from one. All three positive animals were dwarf rabbits, female and their average age was 4.2 years. This study demonstrated that asymptomatic carriers of dermatophytes can be found in rabbit kennels and, consequently, in pet stores, which emphasises the importance of monitoring the presence of dermatophytes on the fur of such animal populations.
