Abstract

Sistemska arterijska hipertenzija stanje je kojeg karakterizira povišenje vrijednosti
sistoličkog krvnog tlaka iznad 160 mmHg, a uglavnom pogađa mačke starije od 9 godina.
Hipertireoza, kronična bolest bubrega te hiperaldosteronizam kao i feokromocitom najčešći su
uzroci povišenog krvnog tlaka mačaka. Bez obzira na etiologiju, hiperetenzija ostavlja štetne
učinke na ciljanim organima poput bubrega, srca te oka. Retrospektivnim istraživanjem
analizirane su kliničke kartice četrnaest mačaka kroz 16 mjeseci. Mačkama je prvotno
napravljen oftalmološki pregled s fundoskopijom kako bi se utvrdio stupanj razvijene
retinopatije. Nastavno su mačke upućene na daljnju internističku obradu s naglaskom na
mjerenje sistemskog krvnog tlaka. U slučaju potvrde sistemske hipertenzije, propisana je
antihipertenzivna terapija kao i daljnje oftalmološko praćenje promjena na mrežnici. Srednja
vrijednost inicijalno mjerenog sistoličkog tlaka iznosila je 247,6 mmHg. Mačke u dobi od 16
godina su bile najčešće zaprimljene, a sljepoća se pokazala kao najprimjetnija manifestacija
bolesti koja je prednjačila kod ženskih mačaka. Povrat vida je utvrđen kod skoro trećine
slijepih mačaka, a svima je potvrđen visoki stupanj hipertenzivne retinopatije.

Abstract (english)

Systemic arterial hypertension is a condition characterized by elevated systolic blood
pressure values above 160 mmHg, predominantly affecting cats older than 9 years.
Hyperthyroidism, chronic kidney disease, hyperaldosteronism, and pheochromocytoma are
the most common causes of elevated blood pressure in cats. Regardless of etiology,
Hypertension causes target organ damage that involves kidneys, heart and eyes. We analyzed
clinical data in a retrospective study in 19 cats that were treated during a period of 16 months.
Initially, cats underwent ophthalmological examination with fundoscopy to determine the
degree of developed retinopathy. Afterwards, they were referred for further internal medical
evaluation with an emphasis on measuring systemic blood pressure. In the case of confirmed
systemic hypertension, antihypertensive therapy was prescribed, along with ongoing
ophthalmological monitoring of retinal changes. The mean value of initially measured systolic
blood pressure was 247,6 mmHg. Cats aged 16 years were most commonly admitted.
Blindness was the most noticeably manifestation of the disease that predominated mostly in
female cats. Vision recovery was observed in almost one-third of blind cats, and a high degree
of hypertensive retinopathy was confirmed in all of them.
