Abstract

Kampilobakterioza je bakterijska zoonoza koja predstavlja sve veći javnozdravstveni
problem te se smatra vodećom bakterijskom bolesti koja se prenosi hranom. Glavni rezervoar
bolesti je proizvodna perad, a čovjek se najčešće inficira konzumacijom sirovog ili termički
nedovoljno obrađenog pilećeg mesa. Zbog rastućeg problema antimikrobne rezistencije, sve se
više traga za alternativnim metodama terapije. Bakteriofagi su virusi koji selektivno napadaju
ciljane sojeve bakterija i uzrokuju njihovu smrt. Mogu se koristiti u terapijske svrhe, kao
preventivni dodatak u hranu, u svrhu dekontaminacije trupova prilikom klaoničke obrade i u
svrhu dekontaminacije površina. Terapija bakteriofagima smatra se prirodnom i bezopasnom
metodom liječenja ljudi i životinja. Prednosti njihove upotrebe u terapijske svrhe su njihova
specifičnost, netoksičnost, rijedak nastanak rezistencije, očuvanje crijevne mikroflore, čime
posljedično doprinose i očuvanju zdravlja životinja i ljudi te su potencijalno rješenje u kontroli
bakterija roda Campylobacter.

Abstract (english)

Campylobacteriosis is a bacterial zoonosis that raise public health concern and is
considered the leading bacterial foodborne illness. The primary reservoir of this disease is
poultry, with humans most commonly becoming infected through the consumption of raw or
undercooked chicken meat. Due to the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance, alternative
therapeutic methods are increasingly being sought. Bacteriophages are viruses that selectively
target specific bacterial strains, causing their destruction. Bacteriophages can be used for
therapeutic purposes, as a preventive food additive, for the decontamination of carcasses during
slaughterhouse processing, and for surface decontamination. Phage therapy is regarded as a
natural and harmless method for treating both humans and animals. The advantages of their use
for therapeutic purposes include their specificity, non-toxicity, rare occurrence of resistance,
and preservation of intestinal microflora, thereby contributing to the health of both animals and
humans and offering a potential solution for controlling Campylobacter.
