Abstract

Anestezija i analgezija su rutinske procedure u kirurgiji koje se također
primjenjuju i kod svinja. Pogotovo svinja koje se koriste u biomedicinskim
istraživanjima iz etičkih razloga i humanog odnosa prema životinji koja doprinosi
poboljšanju života čovjeka. Osim njih, pozornost je usmjerena i na svinje kao kućne
ljubimce čijim vlasnicima nije problem izdvojiti dodatan novac za bolju zdravstvenu
skrb koja podrazumijeva i bezbolne kirurške zahvate. Doktor veterinarske medicine
mora znati prepoznati znakove koji upućuju na bolna stanja i nelagodu koju životinja
osjeća te primjereno reagirati u cilju smanjenja i olakšavanja bola. Ova tema možda ima
marginalan prizvuk, ali samo za laika jer je stručnjacima odavno poznato da ljudi i
životinje, prvenstveno kralježnjaci, dijele vrlo slične neuroanatomske strukture
povezane s osjetom bola. Zato u svakoj situaciji moramo biti maksimalno obazrivi
prema pacijentu i omogućiti mu što bezbolniji postupak po pravilima struke. Naravno,
nije ista situacija u terenskim uvjetima ili opremljenoj klinici koja posjeduje
najmoderniju tehnologiju i aparaturu te moramo biti svjesni situacije u kojoj radimo i s
čime raspolažemo da bismo u zadanim okolnostima isporučili optimalnu medicinsku
uslugu.

Abstract (english)

Anesthesia and analgesia are routine procedures in surgery that are also applied
to pigs. Especially pigs that are used in biomedical research for ethical reasons and a
humane attitude towards the animal that contributes to the improvement of human life.
Apart from them, attention is also focused on pigs as pets, whose owners have no
problem spending extra money for better health care, which also includes painless
surgical procedures. A doctor of veterinary medicine must be able to recognize the signs
that point to painful conditions and discomfort felt by the animal and react appropriately
in order to reduce and alleviate the pain. This topic may have marginal overtones, but
only for the layman because experts have long known that humans and animals,
primarily vertebrates, share very similar neuroanatomical structures related to the
sensation of pain. That's why in every situation we have to be as considerate as possible
towards the patient and enable him to have the procedure as painless as possible
according to the rules of the profession. Of course, the situation is not the same in field
conditions or in an equipped clinic that has the most modern technology and equipment,
and we must be aware of the situation in which we work and what we have at our
disposal in order to deliver the optimal medical service under the given circumstances.
