Abstract

Akupunktura je tehnika tradicionalne kineske medicine poznata gotovo 5000. godina.
Na psima se primjenjuje znatno kraće, nekih 35.godina jer u Kini, psi i maĉke nisu bili smatrani vaţnim ţivotinjama.
Uzlet akupunkture u zapadnom svijetu poĉinje 1979.godine kada svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (W.H.O.) priznaje ovu tehniku kao jednostavnu, sigurnu, uĉinkovitu, znanstveno dokazanu i ekonomiĉnu metodu lijeĉenja i objavljuje listu poremećaja u kojima je ona korisna.
Velik broj referenci, na primjer na PubMed bazi podatka Ameriĉke nacionalne knjiţnice Medicine, pokazuje veliki interes za istraţivanje akupunkture.
Analize pokazuju iznimnu sigurnost primjene akupunkture a u prilog tome ide ĉinjenica da je smiju primjenjivati iskljuĉivo osposobljeni terapeuti (doktori veterinarske medicine i lijeĉnici uz dodatno obrazovanje) sa širokim znanjem iz obje medicine.
U ovom radu, obraĊen je dio osnovnog znanja iz tradicionalne kineske medicine, odnosno akupunkture i dio unutarnjih bolesti pogodnih za lijeĉenje ovom tehnikom.
S obzirom na sve veću popularnost kućnih ljubimaca i sve veću brigu o njihovom zdravlju, nova znanja i vještine mogu pridonijeti dobrobiti i ţivotinjskih pacijenata i doktora veterinarske medicine.
Ostaje nada da će se u skorije vrijeme, na temelju kliniĉkih istraţivanja, razjasniti još uvijek prisutne nejasnoće oko razliĉitih mehanizama djelovanja akupunkture i proširiti primjena ove tradicionalne metode u veterinarskoj medicini naše zemlje.

Abstract (english)

Acupuncture is a technique of Chinese traditional medicine well known for almost 5000 years. Since small animals (cats and dogs) in China were not considered important for a long time, it has been only for last 35 years acupuncture is used as a type of treatment in veterinary medicine.
In western part of the world, the use of acupuncture started to rise in 1979 when World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledged this particular technique as a simple, safe, effective, economic and scientifically proven method of treatment. Also, WHO published a list of different conditions and diseases for which acupuncture can be useful or indicated.
Many references and abstracts on life sciences, for example at PubMed (United States National Library of Medicine), show a huge interest in acupuncture research.
Many scientific research indicate huge safety and reliability when it comes to acupuncture treatment. What is more, reliability is ensured with a fact that only qualified therapists (doctors of veterinary and human medicine with additional education) can conduct specific treatments.
It is very importanat to emphasize that this particular Master degree is elaborating with basic facts and basic knowledge from traditional Chinese medicine and a part of internal diseases in which acupunture can be used successfully.
In addition, small animals are getting attention and care more than ever. Consequently, new skills and ways of treatment are essential to contribute to their well being.
In the end, there is an expectancy that clinical researches will explain many obscurities when it comes to the ways of mechanism of acting and functioning of acupuncture techniques, which will hopefully widen the use of this traditional method in veterinary medicine in the world and in Croatia as well.
