Abstract

Toksoplazmoza je bolest od koje obolijevaju sve vrste toplokrvnih životinja (sisavci i ptice) i čovjek. Bolest uzrokuje mikroskopski malen, jednostaničan parazit Toxoplasma gondii, koji je proširen po cijelom svijetu pa tako i kod nas. Pretpostavlja se da je oko 50% ljudske populacije u nekom razdoblju svog života bilo u kontaktu sa toksoplazmozom. Toksoplazmoza je opasna u osoba sa oslabljenim imunološkim sustavom i trudnica. Ako se infekcija dogodi u trudnoći, parazit može inficirati fetus i stvoriti ozbiljne zdravstvene probleme, pa čak i smrt fetusa. Domaće i divlje mačke su jedini pravi konačni domaćini T. gondii, za razliku od svih ostalih životinja i čovjeka koji su prijelazni domaćini. To znači da se samo u mačaka odvija cjelokupni razvojni ciklus parazita i da samo one izbacuju uzročnika (oocistu) putem fecesa. U životinja invazija najčešće protječe bez simptoma. Bolest se javlja u mlađih životinja i životinja sa oslabljenim imunološkim sustavom.

Abstract (english)

Toxoplasmosis is a disease that affects all species of warm-blooded animals (mammals and birds) and man. The disease causes microscopically small, single-celled parasite Toxoplasma gondii, which has expanded all over the world including in our country. It is believed that about 50% of the human population at some point in his life was in contact with toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is dangerous to people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women. If infection occurs during pregnancy, the parasite can infect the fetus and create serious health problems and even death of the fetus. Domestic and wild cats are the only real definitive hosts of T. gondii, unlike all other animals and humans which are intermediate hosts. This means that only the cat takes the entire development cycle of the parasite and not only those evicted agents (oocysts) in the faeces. In animal invasion usually flows without symptoms. The disease occurs in younger animals and animals with infection weakened immune systems.
