Abstract

Etinioza je bolest pčelinjih zajednica uzrokovana malim kornjašem košnice (Aethina tumida). Mali kornjaš košnice štetnik je i nametnik u zajednicama socijalnih pčela. Autohtona je vrsta u Južnoj Africi, međutim u tim područjima ne uzrokuje značajne štete u jakim pčelinjim zajednicama jer one imaju razvijene urođene obrambene mehanizme, te razvijenu strategiju obrane od tog štetnika. Mali kornjaš košnice je invazivna vrsta kornjaša koja se zahvaljujući primarno trgovini pčelinjim zajednicama proširila na velike udaljenosti. Prirodna invazija malim kornjašem košnice prisutna je u Kanadi, Sjevernoj Americi, Aziji i Australiji, te Europi gdje uzrokuje značajne ekonomske štete u pčelarstvu. Invazije malim kornjašem košnice dovode do većih problema u zemljopisnim područjima s visokim temperaturama zraka i velikom vlažnošću tla. U povoljnim životnim uvjetima navedeni kornjaš u invadiranim pčelinjim zajednicama polaže jaja, uništava saće, hrani se leglom, medom i peludom, te dodatno izlučivanjem ekskremenata u med uzrokuje njegovu fermentaciju i kvarenje. Ukoliko je invazija malim kornjašem košnice jaka i nije kontrolirana, može dovesti do propadanja pčelinje zajednice ili pčele napuštaju košnicu u obliku roja.
Cilj ovog preglednog rada bio je prikazati spoznaje o biologiji malog kornjaša košnice, zemljopisnoj proširenosti, štetama koje može izazvati invadirajući u pčelinjim zajednicama, te mjerama suzbijanja i kontroliranja etinioze, kao i njenoj prevenciji.

Abstract (english)

Aethiniosis is a disease of honeybee colonies caused by small hive beetle (Aethina tumida). Small hive beetle is a pest in honeybee colonies. It is autochtonous to South Africa, but in that area it doesn't cause significant damage to bee colonies because they exhibit defensive behaviour and strategy of defense from the pest. Small hive beetle is an invasive species of beetle that has spread all over the world, mainly because of the trade of bee colonies. Natural invasion of small hive beetle is present in Canada, North America, Asia, Australia and Europe, where it causes significant economic damage in beekeeping. Invasions of small hive beetle cause more problems in geographical areas with high air temperature and high soil humidity. In favourable conditions that beetle lays eggs, destroys the comb, feeds on the brood, honey and pollen, and by excreting faeces into the honey causes it to ferment and spoil. If the invasion of small hive beetle is strong and uncontrolled, it can cause the hive to collapse or the bees to abscond.
The aim of this review was to present the knowledge of biology of the small hive beetle, it's geographical expansion, the damage it can cause while invading the honeybee colonies, and the measures used to control aethiniosos, its prevention and eradication.
