Proširenost bakterije Borrelia miyamotoi u populaciji mišolikih glodavaca

Abstract

Borrelia miyamotoi emergentni je bakterijski patogen, a pripada skupini spiroheta uzročnika povratnih vrućica u ljudi. Unatoč činjenici da najčešće uzrokuje blaže simptome slične gripi, kod imunokompromitiranih pojedinaca može uzrokovati teške neurološke simptome. Na ljude i životinje prenosi se krpeljima iz porodice Ixodidae, a glavne rezervoare ove bakterije predstavljaju mišoliki glodavci. Podaci o proširenosti bakterije B. miyamotoi u RH i samim time stupnju izloženosti ljudi infekciji su prilično oskudni, stoga je cilj ovog istraživanja bio odrediti proširenost bakterije B. miyamotoi u populaciji glodavaca u različitim područjima Republike Hrvatske. Uzorci tkiva slezene mišolikih glodavaca izlovljenih na sedam lokaliteta u RH, pretraženi su metodom lančane reakcije polimerazom po „Touchdown“ protokolu, a pozitivni rezultati utvrđeni su u 2,8% uzoraka. Ovime je prvi puta u Republici Hrvatskoj dokazano prisustvo bakterije B. miyamotoi u običnog šumskog miša (Apodemus sylvaticus). Nadalje, prisustvo ove bakterije dokazano je i u žutogrlog (Apodemus flavicollis), te poljskog miša (Apodemus agrarius), što potvrđuje ulogu miševa kao rezervoara ove spirohete, stoga se može zaključiti da postoji mogućnost infekcije ljudi bakterijom B. miyamotoi na području Republike Hrvatske. Daljnja istraživanja su neophodna kako bismo u potpunosti razumjeli epizootiološko/epidemiološki ciklus ove bakterije.

Abstract (english)

Borrelia miyamotoi, an emergent bacterial pathogen, is a spirochete which causes relapsing fever in humans. Although it most commonly causes mild flu-like symptoms, it can lead to severe neurological symptoms in immunocompromised individuals. It is transmitted to humans and animals by Ixodes tick species, whereas its main reservoir is small rodents. Data on the prevalence of B. miyamotoi as well as human exposure to infection in the Republic ofCroatia are rather scarce, so the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of B. miyamotoi in the rodent population in different parts of Croatia. Samples of spleen obtained from small rodents caught at seven localities in Croatia were examined by using the Touchdown polymerase chain reaction protocol, and positive results were found in 2.8% of the samples. This is the first time that the presence of B. miyamotoi was proven in the wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) in Croatia. Furthermore, the presence of B. miyamotoi was found in the yellow-necked mouse (Apodemus flavicollis) and the striped field mouse (Apodemus agrarius), confirming the role of mice as a reservoir of this spirochete, highlighting the potential for human infection with B. miyamotoi in Croatia. Further research is needed to fully understand the epizootiological and the epidemiological cycle of B. miyamotoi.
