Abstract U radnih pasa koji sudjeluju u aktivnostima duljeg vremenskog perioda s promjenama niskog i visokog intenziteta, oĉekuje se fiziĉka spremnost za terenski rad zbog ĉega prehrana mora pratiti zahtjeve takvih treninga i aktivnosti.
S druge strane, RMBD hrana, unatoĉ svemu, nosi mnogobrojne nepoznanice i zdravstvene rizike.
Abstract (english) Nutrition of working dogs should be appropriate for the training and specific performance due to the physical activity range of prolonged period combined with intervals of high and low activity. The recommended proportion and source of certain macronutrients in their diet consist of higher level of fat and protein and a lower level of carbohydrates since fats increase energy density, digestibility and palatability. In aerobic muscle work, fatty acids serve as a stable source of energy, which is why a high proportion of fat in the diet is considered an advantage.
The aim of the research was to determine the extent to which certain feeding regimes of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service dogs are represented. In general, to what extent are the individual macronutrients present and what is the energy density of the diet. Also, to define feeding practice (number of meals, adjustment of energy intake to daily needs and work of dogs, giving dietary supplements during training). Additionaly, whether the collected data follow the recommendation guidelines for working dogs nutrition. Analisys was carried out on the 22 working dogs data related to dietary regimes collected during anamnesis collection and stored within the VEF clinic program at the Department of Radiology, Ultrasound Diagnostics and Physical Therapy.
Analysis of the feeding regimes in the observed group of dogs showed that 17 dogs (77.27%) were fed extruded complete diet, while 5 dogs (22.73%) were fed RMBD. Comparing the group of dogs fed extruded complete diet and RMBD, it was found that the level of protein and fat was significantly lower in extruded food, while the level of NFE was significantly higher in extruded food. Although the fact that RMBD foods are high in fat and protein and low in easily digestible carbohydrates suggests that the RMBD diet is the optimal choice for working dogs, the recommendations of previous research indicate that it is possible to formulate extruded food to make it more suitable for search dogs: regarding macronutrients composition and energy density. On the other hand, RMBD carries many uncertanties and health risks.
