Abstract

Kuga je bakterijska zarazna bolest mnogih vrsta životinja i ljudi koja trenutno ne predstavlja opasnost na području Republike Hrvatske, ali to ne znači da se ne mogu javiti sporadični slučajevi bolesti u ljudi ili da se bolest neće u budućnosti ponovno proširiti na našem području. Osim što je obuhvaćena pojavnost kuge i njezino značenje kroz povijest, rad se bavi i općim značajkama bolesti s naglaskom na domaću mačku, s obzirom da se mačke smatraju najznačajnijom domaćom životinjom koja sudjeluje u prijenosu kuge na ljude. Geografska područja gdje je kuga danas još uvijek prisutna nazivaju se enzootska područja, a bolest se tamo održava zahvaljujući divljim populacijama glodavaca koje predstavljaju rezervoare bolesti, i vektorima – buhama. U mačaka, kao i u ljudi, postoje tri klinička oblika kuge – bubonska, septikemijska i plućna kuga. Klinički se najčešće očituje limfadenopatijama, povišenom temperaturom i letargijom. Dijagnostika ove bolesti je često sporedna u kliničkim uvjetima jer se preporuča bez odgađanja početi s antimikrobnom terapijom pri sumnji na kugu. S obzirom da prema nekim istraživanjima najveći broj ljudi obolijeva od kuge nakon ugriza buhe, a manji broj obolijeva nakon kontakta sa zaraženim mačkama, važna mjere u sprječavanju širenja bolesti su zaštita mačaka protiv vanjskih parazita i onemogućavanje lova na glodavce.

Abstract (english)

Plague is a bacterial infectious disease found in many animal species and humans. Currently it is not a threat in the Republic of Croatia, but that doesn't mean that sporadic cases of the disease in humans cannot occur, or that the disease will not spread again in our area. In addition to representing the incidence of plague and its significance throughout history, this thesis covers general information about the disease, with an emphasis on the domestic cat, given that cats are considered the most important domestic animal involved in transmitting plague to humans. Geographic regions where the plague is still present today are called enzootic regions. The disease is maintained in enzootic regions thanks to wild rodent populations which represent reservoirs of the disease, and vectors - fleas. In cats, as in humans, there are three clinical forms of plague - bubonic, septicemic and pulmonary plague. Clinically, the most common signs are lymphadenopathy, fever and lethargy. The diagnosis of this disease often comes secondary in clinical settings because it is recommended to start antimicrobial therapy immediately when presented with a patient with suspected plague. According to some research, most people acquire plague after a flea bite, and fewer get infected after contact with infected cats. That's why the important measures to prevent the spread of the disease are to protect cats against external parasites and prevent rodent hunting.
