Dok kirurzi konstantno razvijaju nove učinkovite i manje traumatske tehnike za liječenje tumora, kompletan postupak liječenja tumora zahtijeva stručnjake raznih specijalnosti. |
Abstract (english) | Today, tumors are one of the most important causes of death in animals. For many years, surgical excision of tumors in animals was the only treatment technique. Nowadays, oncology surgeons must objectively consider all modalities of treatment of oncology patients and consider the indications and contraindications of the surgical procedure. Advances in diagnostic methods, anesthesiology, supportive therapy, surgeon education, as well as in the multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of oncology patients, have led to encouraging results. Recent findings in tumor molecular biology, immunology, and virology instill hope in resolving unknown factors relevant to the treatment of tumor patients. While surgeons are constantly developing new effective and less traumatic techniques for treating tumors, the complete procedure of treating tumors requires specialists of various specialties. A multidisciplinary approach to the potential advantage of therapy and the cure rate, while minimizing the side effects. Successful treatment of tumors requires a positive attitude, open and creative thinking and the ability to combine different types of treatment. The trend of today’s treatment of oncology patients is moving towards less radical surgical procedures combined with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and other procedures. Oncological surgery, in correlation with other methods of treating patients with tumors, is the future of treatment in veterinary medicine.
