Abstract

Umjetno osjemenjivanje ohlađenim sjemenom postaje sve češći način rasplođivanja kuja. Glavnu prednost ove tehnologije predstavlja dobivanje potomstva od jedinki koje žive u različitim krajevima svijeta, bez troškova i stresa koje izaziva putovanje životinje na parenje. Ohlađeno sjeme čuva se na temperaturi od 4-5ºC gdje ovisno o vrsti razrjeđivača, ostaje vijabilno 2-10 dana. Prednosti korištenja ohlađenog sjemena, osim već spomenutog, su jednostavnost postupka, niski troškovi opreme i zadovoljavajući postotak koncepcije nakon intravaginalnog osjemenjivanja.

Abstract (english)

Artificial insemination with chilled semen has become a common practice in canine breeding. The main advantage of this technology is possibility to obtain litters from a male and female living in different countries without the costs and the stress of a long travel. Chilled canine semen is preserved at temperatures of 4-5ºC and used for 2-10 days from collection, depending on extender used. The advantages of using chilled semen are that technique and equipment are rather simple, and good pregnancy rate can be obtained with vaginal insemination.
