Abstract

Sirova hrana (BARF) je jedna od mogućnosti prehrane pasa, a dužnost veterinara je da vlasnicima objasni potencijalne rizike takve prehrane. Vlasnici žele najbolje za svoje kućne ljubimce, ali često nemaju objektivne kriterije i pod velikim su utjecajem interneta i ostalih uzgajivača. Bitno je savjetovati da treba pažljivo odabrati izvor i sastav hrane, jer su recepti i preporuke na internetu rijetko točni. Svi sastojci hrane moraju biti podvrgnuti strogim kriterijima higijene i vlasnici moraju biti svjesni specifičnih rizika bakterijske kontaminacije. Ako se odlučite za BARF primijetit ćete neke promjene. Jedna od njih je da će pas piti dosta manje vode nego što je to potrebno kada ga hranite suhom hranom. Može se primijetiti manje nadimanja i samim time manje neugodnih plinova koje će vaš ljubimac ispuštati. Njegova će stolica nakon nekoliko dana biti manje obilna i vjerojatno tvrđa. Promijene će biti vidljive i što se tiče zubnog kamenca i neugodnog zadaha iz usta. Nakon nekoliko mjeseci hranjenja BARF-om mogu se zamijetiti i neke druge stvari, poput linjanja, koje bi moglo biti nešto intenzivnije nego prije, ali također će nakon toga uslijediti rast sjajnije i zdravije dlake. Također se može primijetiti da mu uši jače luče cerumen, no, nakon što ih očistite, lučit će je manje nego prije. Sve su to učinci detoksikacije, čišćenja organizma od dugotrajnog unošenja hrane koja niti je prikladna, niti sirova, a katkad je čak i na granici da ju smatramo biološkom

Abstract (english)

Raw feeding (BARF) is one of many feeding options for dogs, and veterinarian should provide the information to owners about the potential risks of such diet. The owners want the best for their pets, but often don’t have objective criteria and are heavily influenced by the Internet and other breeders. It is important to advise that they should carefully choose the source and composition of food, as recipes and recommendations on the Internet are rarely accurate. All ingredients must be subject to strict criteria of hygiene and owners must be aware of the specific risks of bacterial contamination. If you choose BARF diet you will notice some changes. One of them is that the dog will drink less water than necessary when he is fed dry food. Also in some instances a decrease in flatulence is observed. Dog’s feces may be less abundant and harder. The changes will be visible also with dental plaque and bad breath. After several months of feeding BARF diet other things may become evident, such as shedding, which might be a little more intense than before, but the dog will grow a brighter and healthier coat. You may notice that his ears secrete more earwax, however, after cleaning, the dog will secrete less than before. These are all effects of detoxification, cleaning the body of long-term feed intake that is neither appropriate, nor raw, and sometimes even on the border that we consider biological.
